COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — Longtime South Carolina Congressman John Spratt has died at 82-year-old.
Spratt served in the State’s Fifth Congressional District for nearly three decades.
Friends and colleagues of Spratt took to social media on Sunday to share memories of the lawmaker.
Chair of the Democratic National Committee Jamie Harrison said in a Facebook post that Spratt was a friend, mentor, a miracle worker in the budget committee and “one of the greatest statesmen in Congress”.
Similar notes coming from Rep. Jim Clyburn on Sunday who called serving with Rep. Spratt was one of the most rewarding experiences of his life, calling him “an inconspicuous genius and the most ordinary, extraordinary person I have ever known,” he wrote on Facebook.
